Beskrivelse
Rotation Tournaments runs club tournaments in which nobody is knocked out. In doubles, every player gets a new partner in every match and meets as many different opponents as possible. The ranking is the ratio of games won to games lost, so everybody plays until the very end.
It is made for club evenings and social tournaments in tennis, padel, badminton, table tennis, squash, beach volleyball and other sports played one against one or two against two.
How a tournament works
- The organizer creates a tournament and shares the invitation link or QR code.
- Players join (also later, during the tournament) and the plugin draws the first matches for the free courts.
- Whoever finishes a match enters the score on the website or in the Android app; the next match is drawn at once.
- Standings, statistics and the presentation on a big screen update live.
- At the end the organizer closes the tournament and the best player and the best pair are announced.
The draw
- New teammates first: the plugin pairs players who have not played together yet.
- Opponents are chosen by previous meetings too, so the same players meet less often.
- Players with fewer games and longer rest go first; sides (left/right) and serve alternate.
- Works with any number of players from 4 up, odd numbers included; players can join, pause or leave at any time.
- Special group of players (e.g. women in a mixed tournament) with its own rules: mixed teams only, a separate winner and more.
For the website
- Blocks for the block editor: «Rotation tournament» (matches, results, players, statistics and settings on tabs), «Tournament standings», «Tournament matches», «Tournament presentation», «Tournament list» and «Tournament invitation». Shortcodes for the classic editor.
- Live updates without reloading the page.
- Presentation mode for a TV or projector in the club house.
- Share dialog with a QR code and a link that opens the tournament in the app.
- Colors follow your theme; the block’s Styles panel can change them.
- Guided tours of the page and four example tournaments.
- Players sign in with their WordPress accounts; full or shortened names (privacy).
Android app
The free Rotation Tournaments app connects to your website: players follow the tournament, enter their results and organizers manage it from the court. The app is available in 27 languages. Several devices can be signed in to one account.

Endringslogg
2.0.2 – 2026/10/15
- Improvement – new plugin icon and banner, the same icon as the Android app
- Improvement – readme: new description of the draw, the blocks and the app; new screenshots (also in Spanish for Chile)
2.0.1 – 2026/10/08
- Improvement – messages, headings and notices are translated as whole sentences, so languages with a different word order (e.g. Turkish, Hungarian, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Chinese) read naturally
- Improvement – the round-end notice of the tournament block no longer repeats the texts of its buttons
- Add – English variants for the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa
2.0.0 – 2026/10/06
- Add – blocks for the block editor: «Rotation tournament» (matches, results, players, statistics and settings on tabs, updated live without reloading the page), its variations «Tournament standings», «Tournament matches» and «Tournament presentation», «Tournament list» and «Tournament invitation»
- Add – the plugin admin can convert the main page to the blocks with one button; the old content stays in the page revisions. New installs create the main page from the blocks. The shortcodes [doroto_tournament] and [doroto_tournament_list] show the blocks in the classic editor; the 1.x shortcodes keep working
- Add – the tournament block: Share dialog with a QR code, «Open in the app» line, full-screen presentation that rotates the sections, map of the tournament place in the settings, and guided tours of the page and of four example tournaments
- Add – the tournament block takes its colors from the theme (button and palette colors); the block’s Styles panel can change the accent, the tab bar and table headers, their text and the color of the special group
- Add – the serving player is marked on the match cards; the special group is highlighted in matches, results, players, statistics and winners; the tournament details (invitation text) can be shown at any time
- Improvement – new admin page with Overview, Settings and Help instead of nine settings tabs; every setting is checked on the server and errors are shown next to the field
- Improvement – every change of a tournament (web forms, blocks and the Android app) goes through one shared layer with the same permissions, locking and change detection
- Improvement – styles, scripts and no-cache headers are sent only on pages that show the plugin; the unused tipTip library was removed and the admin no longer calls ip-api.com
- Improvement – REST requests from the website use the WordPress login (cookie and nonce) when no app token is sent
- Fix – tournament settings keep the ranges of 1.x and of the app (a larger value made the app’s dropdowns fail)
- Fix – the plugin restores read permissions of its files after an FTP upload (the web server answered 403 and the admin page stayed empty); the admin page shows a notice when its script cannot be loaded
1.6.2 – 2026/10/04
- Improvement – the draw chooses the opposing team (and the teammate) by previous meetings too: players meet more different opponents and the same players meet less often (with 14 players on 2 courts, pairs that met 3 or more times dropped from about 5 to 1 per evening)
- Improvement – among players with the same number of new teammates left, the one who played fewer games is drawn first; sides (left/right) alternate for both players of a team
- Add – REST route skip-matches: the organizer skips several ongoing matches at once and new matches are drawn from all free players
- Add – organizers see an «Edit result» button next to every played match; it selects the match and its result in the change form (the form above the table was easy to miss)
- Fix – the change form fits on a phone screen (the result and the button were off screen)
1.6.1 – 2026/10/02
- Fix – removing a payment no longer turns the payment list into a JSON object (the Android app could crash on the statistics page)
- Fix – a deleted account leaves its open tournaments: removed when it has not played yet, otherwise suspended; it also leaves the organizers, special group and payments (it was drawn into matches as «Unknown player»)
- Fix – saving the tournament settings rejects an unknown tournament type
- Add – the tournament page has an «Open in the app» link: Android opens the tournament in the app, or Google Play when it is missing
- Add – app tournament links on the central site (?tournament_id=5&doroto_site=) are forwarded to the club’s tournament page when the app is not installed (sites from the site directory; other sites get a page with a link)
1.6.0 – 2026/10/02
- Security – front-end forms check tournament admin rights, not only the nonce (any logged-in user could change players, payments or delete a tournament)
- Security – admin actions sent as links are protected by a nonce (CSRF)
- Security – guided tour actions need a nonce; regenerating the example tournaments is throttled
- Security – final doubles and registration toggle check tournament admin rights
- Security – registration from the app (incl. a new Google account) respects «Anyone can register»
- Security – an account created by an organizer no longer returns a login session of the new player to the organizer
- Security – with registration disabled only tournament organizers can create player accounts from the app (before, any signed-in player could)
- Fix – results entered on the web no longer store last_update = 0, so the Android app refreshes again
- Fix – every write to a tournament updates last_update
- Fix – tournament lock: results entered at the same time on several courts are no longer lost
- Fix – every change of a running tournament (correcting a result, suspending or removing a player, settings, payments, special group, web forms) runs under the tournament lock; correcting a result while another court saved its result could stall the whole tournament
- Fix – several devices signing in or refreshing their session at the same moment no longer sign each other out
- Fix – database upgrade adds new columns also on already installed sites
- Fix – Authorization header is read also on FPM/CGI hosts
- Fix – REST responses are never served from page caches or CDNs
- Change – invitation link only joins the tournament (a second click no longer unregisters the player), redirects to the login page and back, and then to the tournament page
- Change – the app can be signed in on several devices at once (up to 10 per user)
- Change – the default name of a new tournament uses the site time zone, not UTC
- Change – tournament links to the home page («?tournament_id=5») and the old app QR codes («/tournament?id=5») open the tournament page
- Add – REST endpoint create-player: the organizer creates a player and adds them to the tournament in one step; the player gets an e-mail to set the password
- Add – optional mode join/leave for the app join endpoint
- Add – the tournament page shows a short link to the Android app (can be turned off in Settings -> Mobile app)
- Change – the review request is shown only to administrators, 14 days after activation once the site has its own tournament, and comes back 7 days after «Remind me» until the plugin is rated
