I really love this plugin. Searching and inserting images is easy. Speed is very good. One thing I miss is integration with the Media Library, I cannot add an image from there (please guys, add a tab 😉

I've been using Unsplash images for years. This plugin allows you to add Unsplash images easily to your media library - just like any other image you would add. The best part is how easy it is to browse right in the WordPress dashboard. Easy peasy.

Works great, when adding images to a blog post on the fly. Five stars, when you can select the image size before downloading, like it's possible on their website. So as to not have too large image files in the media library and in the blog post.

I used to use and love Unsplash but this plugin gives me pause and ultimately I have decided to no longer use Unsplash after all these years. First a couple months ago I received a DMCA notice for an unsplash image which I resolved and did not think too much of at the time(just a one off incident) but that combined with how this plugin works(which causes a slower image load time) and the new license Unsplash is using is enough to make me stop utilizing them. On the technical side I installed this plugin on a development server. Used an image and ran a few speed tests. I disabled the plugin and ran those same speed tests using the same image and the results of those tests came out faster. I do use a CDN as well so it may just be that my CDN out performs what they are using but I do not want to suffer a performance loss to use an unsplash image.

Unsplash is sketchy. I used to promote them and contributed but no longer do. The terms of Unsplash have changed in the past, and may again in the future. The terms themself are less bad than the duplicitous nature in which they have talked about it. It causes me to mistrust their intentions. It's unclear why they want you to use their CDN and make that the default, it's probably to support their new advertising business model and get analytics for it. Running a CDN is expensive, and if you're not paying for it then you are the product. I would not be surprised if Unsplash hotlinked images broke at some point in the future. If you want a CDN, you should run one for your entire site, not just certain images from a single source — in fact having multiple CDNs running at the same time could slow down your site because of the additional DNS lookups. If you want restricted stock images, I'd recommend going with another service that doesn't have such a controversial or troubled history and ethics. WordPress also recommends a number of places with Creative Commons Zero and GPL compatible licenses: https://make.wordpress.org/themes/handbook/review/resources/#recommended-websites-for-images
